I am so super stoked to be able to share with you who actually is behind the voice of Parenting Puh-lease!
My name is Merrawyn and I am a single mom of three beautiful girls who inspire, teach, challenge and humble me on a daily basis! Before becoming a mother, I taught preschool for families who were newcomers to Canada and then continued on to complete my Elementary Education degree despite having my two older girls at home and in my last trimester with my third!
I actually hid my brand new baby under my graduation robes and walked her across the stage with me!!
A super fun story about my Elementary Education convocation is that I walked the stage with my littlest, who would have been 2 weeks old at the time, swaddled in a Moby wrap under my graduation robe! I was so scared that if someone found out they wouldn’t let me walk the stage but instead I had professors, who saw the baby afterwards, tell me I should have walked the stage with her peeking out of my robe or in my arms! When there is a will there is always a way to accomplish your dreams!
If I can do it, so can you
Really my whole life has been one where I have constantly beat the odds and have seen the hand of God constantly and gently guiding and sometimes nudging me to where I needed to go.
I grew up in a single parent household due to a father who suffered with mental illness. He would bounce back and forth between being present and then unavailable until I was twelve. My mother was the sole provider in our home. She tried the best she could with what she knew. She took us to church every Sunday and taught us to trust in God. When things weren’t going as they should, she taught us to pray. And when that didn’t work she taught us to pray some more. Our clunker car worked on faith and a prayer. It was through these life changing experiences that I developed a close relationship with God.
I was the first family member to go to university and get a degree! And I know it is through God’s constant presence that allowed me to have a path prepared for me to do so.
Despite having a close relationship with Him, I ended up getting married to someone who was abusive in every aspect of the word defined. Through, God’s grace again I was able to finally heal myself enough to shut out the malicious lies that I was of little value and worth, and stand up for me and my girls.
We are now on a pathway to healing and peace. And God again is present and near. I love country music and my story reminds me of the song lyrics, “God is great, beer is good and people are crazy”. Now I actually don’t drink alcohol but I find the lyrics true that God is great and people are crazy. But despite the imperfections and heartache I am grateful for my life.
We can take our broken and be mended by amazing hands. His hands for we are of worth.
Who I really am
So in a nutshell, I am a DIYer, a teacher (in every sense of the word), a 50’s lover, a country music listener, a chick flick watching, play based learning, homeschooler, and teaching momma.
I love me some good chick flicks and I would rather stay at home with my favourite people and watch a good movie. I truly believe that my home finally is my solace from the world.
I am a minimalist in the making. I have spent the last year purging the excess. In the last year I have given away over fifty black garbage bags of stuff that we no longer, use, need or want. It does wonders for the soul. Feeling heavy and burdened down?? Dejunk your house!!
I am a recovering people pleaser. I am learning to say no and stand up for myself. I am learning that it is okay to make mistakes and not be perfect. I have learned a fantastic and profound truth that not everyone is going to like you and that’s okay!!
I am a digger! I love to research and research some more. I love to educate myself on my passions! Parenting, play, teaching and learning. Have a question, idea, suggestion! Hit me with your best shot! We are up for the challenge!
I am a player. No not that kind!! I won’t break your heart! I love to play!! I feel like we can learn much about life through play. We can learn all that is needed to be taught through play. Our homes are happier. Our children are move loving and kind when we learn to stop and play.
I am a homeschool advocate because that’s what’s best for our family!! My girls will learn through songs, play, and games!! Because in our home we do fun!!
So welcome friend!! I’m so glad you’re here!!
I am excited to share my parenting and teaching journey with you and hope that I can inspire you to be all that you want to be and more as an individual and as a family! Come stay a while as we figure out this journey called life together <3
